In 1907, Antimo DeFilippo opened a small monument business known as Revere Monumental Company. It was a barn-like fixture located in Revere, Massachusetts. He was soon joined by his son, George DeFilippo, Sr., who worked along side of his father until Antimo’s passing in 1936. In 1943, George moved the business across the city line to the Woodlawn section of Everett. As a result, Woodlawn Memorials was born. George is credited for the great success of Woodlawn Memorials. He built a full-service gravestone company where customers can expect to find high quality memorials at very competitive prices.
After several years, his sons George, Jr., and Arthur came to work alongside their father. Years later, they were joined by respective wives, Lillian and Terri. They continued in this capacity until George, Sr.’s passing in 1990.
In the mid 1980’s, David and Michael DeFilippo (1967- 2004) joined the family monument business representing the fourth generation. Today, alongside his father and uncle Arthur, David continues in George, Sr.’s tradition of producing distinctive memorialization. Like a fine granite, the fine reputation created by Woodlawn Memorials founder, George DeFilippo, Sr. has endured for generations.
